Silverton is located in Marion County, Oregon, fifteen
minutes from Salem, the state capital, along Highway
213. Founded in 1854, the settlement boasted several
lumber mills driven by Silver Creek. The town was incorporated
in 1885. Despite the name of the city and the creek,
silver was never mined near Silverton.
Silverton is now home to The Oregon Garden, a 60-acre
botanical garden still 'growing' to its final 240+ acre
size. The town is also the gateway to Silver Falls State
Park, where hikers, trail cyclists and horse enthusiasts
enjoy sights along the Trail of Ten Falls.
Visitors also enjoy the town's extensive art collection,
from massive murals painted on walls and buildings throughout
the historic downtown to a thriving community of galleries.
